Work Experience in Publishing
After graduating from university in 2019, I started working at DeeTen Publishing House, where I was involved in the publication of numerous classic literary works, such as The Little Prince, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Selected Works of Edgar Allan Poe, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I also helped publish language learning books for Taiwanese people to learn Korean, along with other Korean books.
In 2022, I joined my current company, Marco Polo Publishing, where I am currently responsible for publishing novels from various countries.
Current Projects
February: Published the seventh book in the Eddie Flynn series, a British novel that we have been long dedicated to.
March: Published Movies Never Stop Questioning, a film book by Korean director Lee Chang-dong. We continue to publish script collections from director Lee Chang-dong as well.
April: Published The Long Night, a novel by Korean author Choi Eun~young.
June: Published Greenwood, a novel by Canadian author Michael Christie.
July: Published Four Knocks, a suspense novel by Korean author Kassy.
August: Published The Thicket, an American novel that will soon be adapted into a movie.
Recently, we have been preparing for the release of a new series in September, the American novel Iron Lake.
Main Interest
I really enjoy reading novels, as well as watching any TV series or movies with complete storylines, which is why I focus on novels in my current work. Additionally, I have a habit of keeping a journal, where I write down important and happy moments of each day, and decorate blank notebooks beautifully. This has been a joy of mine since high school.
Experience Related to This Year’s Topic
As an example from the novels I am primarily responsible for, we have found that recent novels no longer rely solely on the book blurb for promotion. Instead, the personal reflections of readers are what can truly elevate a book's popularity and marketing impact. Therefore, before the release of each book, we create a 'sample edition' containing about 10% of the content and provide it to interested readers. After publication, we also invite lnstagram accounts (which is better than Facebook!) that enjoy sharing books to help find a community to promote the book.
Additionally, we occasionally include book-related gifts to add a little extra appeal. For instance, in June, we published Greenwood, a book about environmental themes. We collaborated with a manufacturer of recycled pencils to create a win-win effect, aligning the promotional gift with the book's message.
